Hit Splitwise's daily expense limit? Here's a free option
Splitwise's free plan currently limits how many expenses you can add each day; its Pro subscription removes the limit. If you're in the middle of a trip or catching up on a month of flat bills, that can stop you mid-way. Here are your options, and how to move a group to Kwitsy, which is free with no limit on how many expenses you add.

Your options right now
- Wait for it to reset. The limit is per day, so you can add the rest tomorrow. Fine if you only add a few expenses now and then.
- Ask someone in the group to add them. Splitwise suggests a friend enters the expense and picks you as the person who paid.
- Subscribe to Splitwise Pro, which removes the daily limit, if you want to stay on Splitwise.
- Move the group to a free app. Kwitsy has no limit on how many expenses you add and no ads, and your friends can join from a link without making an account. Moving takes a few minutes (below).
Move a group to Kwitsy, step by step
- In Splitwise (the app or the website), open the group or friend and choose Export: in the app it's at the end of the menu along the top; on the website, click the gear icon and choose “Export Spreadsheet”. You get a CSV file. Exporting doesn't change anything in Splitwise.
- Sign in to Kwitsy with your email (no password), then go to Account → “Import from Splitwise”.
- Pick the file and tell Kwitsy which column is you. Files up to 4 MB and 2,000 expenses work.
- You get a new group with every expense and person from the file, and the same balances as on Splitwise.
- Share the new group's invite link (WhatsApp, email, a QR code). Each friend picks their name from the list to claim their spot, as a guest in the browser or with an account.
Repeat for each group you want to move. Groups you leave on Splitwise stay exactly as they were.
Then add the backlog
- Add the expenses that didn't fit, with the date they happened. There's no daily cap on adding expenses.
- Type a sentence like “80 for drinks with Dave and Ana, Dave paid” and Quick add fills in the form, or scan a receipt. These AI helpers have a daily allowance per person; typing expenses in by hand has no limit.
- Rent and other bills that come back every month can repeat automatically.
Good to know before you switch
- Kwitsy is a separate app: expenses you add in Kwitsy don't appear in Splitwise, so agree as a group where you'll keep the tab.
- Friends don't have to install anything: the invite link works in any browser, and there's an Android app on Google Play.
- No lock-in: export any Kwitsy group as a spreadsheet, or in the same layout Splitwise exports, which Splitwise importers (Kwitsy's included) are built to read.
- Kwitsy never moves money: you pay each other as you like, with UPI, Pix, Venmo or PayPal links or a bank-transfer QR code filled in.
Questions
Does Kwitsy have a daily expense limit?
No. Adding, splitting and settling up are free, with no limit on how many expenses you add and no ads. Only the AI helpers (receipt scanning and Quick add) and uploads have a daily allowance.
Will my balances match after importing from Splitwise?
Yes. The import brings every expense and person from Splitwise's CSV export into a new group, and the balances match what Splitwise showed.
Does moving delete my Splitwise group?
No. Exporting from Splitwise only downloads a copy; your Splitwise group stays as it was.
Do my friends need a Kwitsy account?
No. They open the group's invite link and pick their name, as guests in the browser. They can make a free account later to use it on every device.
Can I take my data with me if I leave?
Yes. Export any group from Kwitsy as a spreadsheet, or in the same layout Splitwise exports, which Splitwise importers are built to read. Splitwise itself doesn't import spreadsheets.
